MDMA + Alcohol
MDMA + Alcohol: the short answerAlcohol dulls the MDMA experience while making dehydration, overheating, and risky decisions worse — and it lengthens the strain on your heart and liver. It mostly adds risk and subtracts enjoyment.
Why it’s dangerous
MDMA releases serotonin and raises body temperature and heart rate; alcohol is a diuretic depressant that impairs temperature regulation and judgment. Together they dehydrate you faster while convincing you that you are fine, and both stress the liver — alcohol also blunts MDMA's euphoria, which tempts people into re-dosing.
What happens
- A duller, sloppier high that tempts re-dosing
- Faster dehydration and overheating
- Nausea, dizziness, and worse hangovers/comedowns
- More accidents, injuries, and regretted decisions
Warning signs
- Confusion, stumbling, or vomiting while dancing
- Overheating: hot skin, headache, cramps
- Fainting or sudden unresponsiveness
What to do
- Call emergency services for collapse, seizures, or confusion with high temperature
- Move somewhere cool; sip — do not chug — water or an electrolyte drink
- Recovery position for anyone vomiting or hard to wake
- If you use MDMA, keep alcohol out of it and take regular cool-down breaks
