Captagon production scatters across 8+ countries after Assad fall; 177M+ tablets seized in the Arab region in 12 months

UNODC counts a minimum of 177 million captagon tablets intercepted across the Arab region between December 2024 and December 2025. The EU Drugs Agency's 2026 strategic assessment documents production re-forming in Lebanon, Iraq, Sudan, Yemen, Türkiye, Egypt and Kuwait — with European manufacturers entering the supply chain. The post-Assad disruption changed the map, not the volume.

UNODC's regional synthetic-drug reporting puts the floor on intercepted captagon at 177 million tablets for the twelve months to December 2025 — Syria alone reported seizing over 500 million tablets in that window, Lebanon 78 million. Seizure records of this scale mean supply remains industrial.

The EUDA/EU-ACT 2026 assessment traces production dispersing to at least eight countries, including three labs seized in Kuwait in 2024, and identifies Dutch and German manufacturers supplying the precursor and amphetamine side of the trade.

Saudi Arabia remains the largest destination market, accounting for roughly two-thirds of regional seizures. Street prices for a tablet roughly doubled after the Syrian disruption — the price signal that pushed users toward methamphetamine.
