What happens when you quit MDMA
Read this firstNo dangerous physical withdrawal — but expect a real serotonin comedown. The main risks are depression in week 1 and the temptation to redose to escape it.
The timeline
Day 1–3 — Comedown
Low mood, fatigue, appetite loss. Serotonin stores are depleted; they rebuild.
Week 1 — Emotional flatness
Some feel tearful or anxious. Sleep, sunlight and exercise help more than anything.
Week 2–4 — Back to baseline
Mood normalizes. If it doesn't — or low mood predates use — talk to a professional.
Ongoing — Frequency rule
The brain needs roughly 1–3 months between rolls to recover serotonin function — more frequent use is where real damage happens.
What actually helps
- Never use MDMA to escape the MDMA comedown — that's the spiral
- Persistent low mood after use is a sign to stop and get support
- Test pills — PMA/PMMA masquerading as MDMA kills
The relapse ruleAfter even a week clean, your tolerance drops dramatically — an old dose can kill. If you slip: treat it like your first time, never use alone, keep naloxone close.
